Näyttely

Unohdus on näyttely näyttelyn sisällä Herttoniemen kartanon museossa. Kartanon historia kulkee 1500-luvun Hertonäsin kylästä viimeisen tilanherran Johan Bergbomin sisällissodan aikaista kuolemaa seuranneeseen kartanon museokäyttöön. Näyttelyssä nykytaideteokset käyvät dialogia museon kokoelmien kanssa ja kirjoittavat vaihtoehtoisia historioita paikalliselle maamerkille.




Unohdus




Filosofi Jacques Derridan hauntologia-käsitteeseen pohjaava näyttely pohtii menetettyjä tulevaisuuksia, jotka tähän päivään saakka vaikuttavat yhteiskuntaamme. Näyttely esittää kysymyksen: mikä rooli unohtamisella on historiankirjoituksessa ja muisti-instituutioissa? Tarinat, jotka eivät sovi suureen kertomukseen aktiivisesti unohdetaan koostaessa tarinoita sankarillisista yksilöistä, maamerkeistä tai kansallisvaltioista.

Näyttelyn nykytaideteokset edustavat eräänlaisia muistivirheitä. Ne osallistuvat spekulatiiviseen historiankirjoitukseen ja tarkoituksellisesti vääristelevät menneitä tapahtumia. Nämä valemuistot voivat kuitenkin kannustaa meitä näkemään historian uusin silmin. Ne voivat paljastaa arkkitehtuuriin sementoituja luokkayhteiskunnan rakenteita tai puutarhassa kukkivia kolonialismin hedelmiä.

Historia ei jätä meitä. Se kaikuu rakennusperinnössämme muuttaen Herttoniemen kartanon eräänlaiseksi kummitustaloksi, jossa henkien sijaan todet ja menetetyt historiat vainoavat vierailijoita. Näyttely muuttaa kartanon unohtamisen museoksi.

Autumn Garden

Autumn Garden is part of a series of workshop-ceremonies that invite us to navigate seasonal changes in the context of our climate and ecological crisis. Each gathering takes place near a solstice or equinox and explores how we can reconnect with the symbolism of these thresholds without losing sight of the present moment. During Autumn Garden, you will create an autumn-equinox oracle using the plant deck from "There is nothing old under the sun", a broader artistic project by María de Candama.

María de Candama is an artist who creates participatory performances and pedagogical experiences to research how we relate to our surroundings. Candama is her long-term artistic project, in which plants, public spaces, and ritual practices act as a starting point for establishing affective and reciprocal alliances with the world. She has worked as a curator for Mad House Helsinki and Circus Maximus, and teaches contemporary art workshops to children. She also performs in works by other artists.
Konsta Klemetti

Unseen photographs from the late 1800s emerge and open up new biographical details on the life of the manor owners. Or perhaps they are mere figments of imagination - extrapolations from the scarce historical evidence left behind.

Konsta Klemetti is an artist of the post-medium age, working across disciplines in search of the aesthetics of existence. His curiosity and concept-driven approach reboots the internal creation system for each project. Klemetti's practice encompasses glass sculptures, photography, sound installations and space-time installations.
Pola Laamanen
Archive of anticipation

Archive of Anticipation explores the traces left by waiting. Through a suspended textile curtain, embroidered and collaged fingerprints, handprints, and shadows extending onto the floor, the installation reflects on anticipation as a physical act. A window becomes more than an architectural element—it is a space between absence and reunion, where touch preserves gestures of hope, longing, and care.

Pola Laamanen is a textile artist based in Finland. Her practice combines hand embroidery with textile collage, installations and self-published zines. Working with new, found and discarded materials, she explores sustainable textile practices, heritage, memory and belonging. Her background in Chemical Engineering informs an experimental and methodical approach to materials, structure and process.




Teittinen Lizard

The only known small object made at the Herttoniemi Manor faience factory that has survived to this day. The timeless sculpture was found preserved in the manor's private collections. The preservation and concealment of the work seem to indicate the intimate nature of the sculpture and can be interpreted as depicting the warm relationship between the manor's resident and possibly an anonymous potter who worked at the factory, and presumably the sculptor.

Teittinen Lizard is a Helsinki-based visual artist working primarily with sculpture. Their sculptures most often depict emotions and experiences through human figures. Many of their pieces are created through handbuilding clay techniques and various casting methods. A significant part of their artistic practice is also based on playfully experimenting with materials and shapes and relying on the storytelling of the material itself.

On 17 November 1917, while the Bergboms were having breakfast in Hertonäs, members of the Red Guard from Malmi, who intended to inspect the grounds for weapons, forced their way into the dining room. John Bergbom, who was almost deaf, was shot and killed when he apparently ignored the Red Guard's demands. Helene Bergbom, likely traumatised by the events surrounding her husband's murder, decided against inheritance and moved out of the manor, donating it to the Svenska Odlingens Vänner i Helsinge Association, of which John had been a member. Helene dies in 1932, aged 81. Decades later, Helene Bergbom's spirit is led back to Hertonäs by a strong yearning. The layout of her former homestead seems different; certainly modernised, but she remembers certain elements from a time even before herself. She enters the dining room and finds her husband waiting for her at the table. It isn't their table, nor their dishes or cutlery, but it'll do just fine. They both sit down and finish their breakfast together, this time without interruption.

Bailey is an audiovisual artist/performer from the UK, currently based in Helsinki. He has been crafting audiovisual art and performances since moving to Helsinki in 2019, and performs under a variety of monikers. Having graduated from the Sound in New Media program at Aalto University in 2022, he currently holds a permanent position as AV Master at the Theater Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki.

Hengenhaukinda

"Parahikse tulit hengenhaukindaigah." Hengenhaukinda means the slow and uneven grasps of breath upon dying. The spirit is simultaneously inhabitating and leaving the body. A transition is about to take place. Such is the logic of memory, intangible heritage and interpretation.

Susiedat ("Neighbours") is a cross-field artistic collaboration by four North Karelian-born artists whose roots extend to the rural municipalities of Border Karelia. Their ancestors are evacuees who used to live in and eventually fled the neighboring towns of Suojärvi, Mantsinsaari, Suistamo and Impilahti. Susiedat is an ongoing collaborative project that combines its members' artistic practices with family history research and participation in the Karelian language revitalization.

Charles Quevillon is a Canadian-Finnish composer and performer based in Helsinki. His practice is centered on the physicality of music performance, where sound-making often extends into other media such as dance, theater, and circus. He also likes to touch upon themes such as ritual, the sacred, technology, and consumption.

Permanere is an embodied performance drawing inspiration from the Herttoniemi manor and its grounds and its fictional history, whispering, daydreaming, nymphs, and imagined traces of what and who still resides there.

Emilia Kallioinen is a Helsinki-based dance artist. She holds a BA (Hons) in Contemporary dance (2020) from Trinity Laban, and is currently completing her MA studies in dance at Theatre Academy Helsinki. She has performed in various works across Finland and the UK. Her artistic practice draws from physicality and embodiment of tales and stories, and is inspired by our relationship with spaces, places and materials.

Näyttely sijaitsee Herttoniemen kartanon museossa. Näyttelyn avajaisia juhlitaan Herttoniemen kartanon viereisessä puistossa. Saavuthan paikalle jalan tai julkisilla kulkuvälineillä. Pyöräily tai autolla ajaminen ei ole sallittua puistossa. Mikäli saavut pyörällä tai autolla voit ajaa Johan Sederholmin tieltä ja pysäköidä parkkipaikalle ravintola Wanhan Myllyn viereen.

Art for All ry supports artists and art workers at the beginning of their career and offers a network of peer collaboration. With this mission in mind, the AFA Festival is a platform offering students and emerging talent across Finland visibility and an opportunity to grow. The Festival team puts into practice their knowledge and creativity as artists, technicians, communicators, photographers, curators, project managers, to bring the Festival to life.

Art For All ry was started by students and alumni from the University of the Arts and Aalto University. The first edition of the AFA Festival took place at Malmi Airport Hangar in August 2021, the second on in Kaisaniemi Botanical gardens 2022, and the third in the residential buildings of Kalasatama neighborhood.
